Sotheby’s to auction its first artwork made by a humanoid robot

Sotheby’s is gearing up for its first-ever auction of artwork created by a humanoid robot named Ai-Da. The piece, titled “AI God,” is a portrait of mathematician and computer scientist Alan Turing, a pioneer of modern computing and artificial intelligence. The painting is estimated to fetch between $120,000 and $180,000. Ai-Da is a robot artist created by U.K.-based art dealer Aidan Meller, who can draw and paint using cameras, AI algorithms, and a robotic arm. The sale proceeds will be reinvested in the Ai-Da project, highlighting the intersection of art and technology in society. This auction marks a new frontier in the art world, sparking discussions about the evolving possibilities of artmaking in the 21st century.
