Slice Of Royal History: Queen Elizabeth II’s Wedding Cake Auctioned For Rs 2.4 Lakh

Vintage collectibles are always sought after, but a piece of cake from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s 1947 royal wedding recently fetched £2,200 at an auction. The 77-year-old fruitcake, soaked in alcohol and served to over 2,000 guests, came with a personal thank-you letter from the Queen. The slice, discovered in Scotland, was found in its original box and accompanied by a heartfelt note from Queen Elizabeth. Marion Polson, the housekeeper at The Palace of Holyroodhouse, received the slice as a gift for buying a dessert service for the newlyweds. After her death, the slice was stored under a bed until her family reached out to auctioneers, where it was sold to a Chinese bidder over the phone. Royal expert James Grinter described the slice as “a real little find,” making it a truly extraordinary piece of history.
