Actress Anna Sawai won her first Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards. She was emotional and overwhelmed by the win, especially since it was her first nomination. Sawai made history as the first Asian woman to win in the category. She thanked the Television Academy, her co-creators, co-stars, crew members, and her mother in her acceptance speech. Sawai was nominated for her role in the FX series Shōgun, where she played the enigmatic character Toda Mariko.
