Typhoon Bebinca hit Shanghai on Monday, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall. The city is under a red alert due to the severe weather conditions. This could be the strongest typhoon to hit Shanghai since 1949. Authorities have evacuated coastal residents and cancelled flights and train services. The disruptions come during China’s mid-Autumn Festival holiday. The storm has already caused destruction in the Philippines and Japan. Bebinca is expected to continue towards the Chinese provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui. Shanghai is not usually affected by such powerful typhoons, as they typically hit southern China.
