Rising ‘catchable’ cancers: Oncologists in US warn of HPV-linked surge – Times of India



US-based oncologists are concerned about the increasing cases of cancer that can be transmitted through common STDs, such as HPV. While major cancer rates have stabilized, cancers linked to HPV are on the rise, particularly in the age group of 30-34. HPV is a highly infectious virus that contributes to various cancers, including cervical, head, neck, throat, and anal cancers. Vaccination against HPV is available and has been shown to prevent many HPV-related cancers, but uptake in the US has been low. The report estimates that HPV-related cancers make up a small percentage of all cancers diagnosed in the US.
