A U.S. Air Force pilot safely ejected from an F-35 fighter jet that crashed during a training exercise at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska. The pilot declared an inflight emergency before the crash and is in stable condition. The Air Force will conduct an investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future. The base was chosen in 2016 to host 54 F-35s, resulting in a costly expansion. The F-35 has a long flight capability and can reach almost anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere in one mission. This incident is not the first involving an F-35, with previous crashes occurring in Texas and South Carolina.
