The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a reduction of Rs1.28 per unit in electricity prices for September 2024, which will be reflected in November’s billing cycle. This adjustment is due to global fuel price fluctuations and will provide relief to consumers. The decision was made after a detailed review and public hearing, resulting in a larger reduction than initially requested by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA). The reduction will apply to most consumer categories, except for certain groups like lifeline customers and electric vehicle charging stations. The adjustment is based on the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) mechanism, which adjusts tariffs based on fuel costs incurred by power producers. All Distribution Companies (DISCOs) must implement this reduction in November’s billing cycle for eligible consumers.
