Meta bans RT, days after U.S. accuses Russian outlet of disinformation

Meta, the parent company of social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, has announced that it is banning Russian media outlet RT from its apps globally. This move comes after the Biden administration accused RT of acting as an arm of Moscow’s spy agencies and carrying out covert information warfare operations around the world. The State Department official called RT a fully fledged member of the Russian government’s intelligence apparatus. Meta has been limiting Russian state-controlled media for the past two years and is now expanding its enforcement against RT and other related entities. The ban is expected to roll out in the next few days.
