Madrid learn schedule for 1st Intercontinental Cup

FIFA announced the first edition of the annual FIFA Intercontinental Cup for club teams, with European Champions League winners Real Madrid set to play in the final on Dec. 18 in Doha. The tournament replaces the Club World Cup, which will now be played every four years with 32 teams from 2025. The competition will feature five matches, starting with AFC Champions League winners Al Ain hosting OFC Champions League winners Auckland City. The action then moves to Doha, where the 2024 CONMEBOL Libertadores winners will face Mexican side Pachuca. The winners of these matches will compete in the Challenger Cup for a spot in the final against Real Madrid. The final will take place on Qatar’s National Day, marking the two-year anniversary of the 2022 World Cup final.
