Lufthansa fined million for blocking 128 Jewish passengers from boarding flight

Lufthansa was fined $4 million for refusing to let 128 Jewish passengers board a flight in 2022, leading to allegations of racism and antisemitism. The incident occurred when passengers were traveling from New York City to Budapest for a memorial event. Despite not knowing each other, the men were treated as a group and prevented from boarding due to the alleged misconduct of a few. The U.S. Department of Transportation issued the largest penalty ever against an airline for civil rights violations. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized that discrimination should not be tolerated in the airline industry. Lufthansa has apologized for the incident.
