Led by the South, clean energy sector added more than 150,000 jobs last year

A recent report by the nonpartisan business group E2 found that nearly 3.5 million people in the U.S. now work in the clean energy sector, with over 1 million of those jobs in the South. The increase in employment is attributed to the Inflation Reduction Act, a law passed in 2022 to spur emissions cuts and transition the economy away from fossil fuels. Clean energy companies added nearly 150,000 new jobs in 2023, with the South leading in job growth. Despite opposition from Republicans, states like Alabama, Kentucky, and Oklahoma saw significant growth in clean energy jobs. The report suggests that clean energy is a growing sector with potential for further growth.
