Several states have implemented stricter laws regarding voter assistance, making it difficult for Latino voters, particularly those with disabilities or limited English proficiency, to receive the help they need. In Texas, for example, volunteers who assist voters must now take an oath and face criminalization if they violate the rules. Similar restrictions exist in Arkansas and Missouri, limiting the number of voters a person can assist. Advocacy groups are suing these states, arguing that the laws disproportionately impact minority voters and hinder their ability to participate in elections. Despite ongoing legal challenges, the restrictions remain in place, creating barriers for vulnerable voters.
