Morris found it challenging to portray Garrett Morris in the movie “Saturday Night,” as he felt the pressure to accurately represent the comedian’s experience on “Saturday Night Live.” He drew from his own experiences of being typecast based on his race, similar to what Morris faced. Director Jason Reitman helped Morris understand Morris’ feelings of being a fish out of water on the show. While the movie takes some creative liberties, Morris believes it captures the essence of Morris’ struggles and achievements. Morris hopes the film will inspire a future biopic about Morris’ life and contributions. “Saturday Night” premieres nationwide on Oct. 11.
