The district attorney of Los Angeles County is supporting clemency for Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted of killing their parents in 1989. The brothers have served 34 years in prison and have shown signs of rehabilitation. Clemency would allow them to be released immediately. The governor’s office has not commented on the clemency requests. The brothers claimed they were sexually abused by their father, which their defense attorneys argued influenced their actions. The district attorney has also recommended resentencing the brothers to make them eligible for parole. Their case will be reviewed in court in December.
