Israeli military says it likely killed American in West Bank

The Israeli military stated that the American woman, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who was killed during a protest in the West Bank was likely hit unintentionally by Israeli fire. The incident occurred during a demonstration against settlement expansion. The U.S. urged Israel to investigate the circumstances surrounding Eygi’s death. The IDF said she was hit indirectly while aiming at the protest’s instigator. Eygi’s family called for an independent U.S.-led investigation. Israel has initiated an autopsy on Eygi’s body and expressed regret over her death. The incident comes amidst increased scrutiny over settler violence in the West Bank. An FBI probe into the killing of another American journalist in the West Bank is ongoing, with Israel refusing to cooperate.
