IMF chief calls for unity on shared challenges in ‘deeply troubled times’



In a speech ahead of the IMF and World Bank’s annual meetings, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva highlighted the progress made in tackling inflation but warned of ongoing challenges for the global economy. She emphasized the need for the international community to come together to address issues like lackluster growth and climate change. Georgieva also announced the appointment of a new third chair for Africa on the IMF’s executive board. She praised the independence of central banks and international financial institutions, but cautioned about the difficult geopolitical environment and the risks it poses to global stability. Overall, she urged policymakers to take action to prevent further economic fracturing.
