Food Authority Issues Advisory On Unauthorised Use Of Liquid Nitrogen In Food And Drinks

The Food Safety and Standards Authority Of India (FSSAI) has issued a warning against the use of liquid nitrogen in food and drinks at the point of sale. It is not authorized to use liquid nitrogen to make food items like ice creams, cocktails, meetha paan, and bakery items more visually appealing. The consumption of items infused with liquid nitrogen has led to serious health issues and injuries. The FSSAI clarifies that liquid nitrogen should only be used for technological purposes during food processing and not for serving or plating directly at the point of sale. Any violation of this regulation will result in legal action against food businesses. Liquid nitrogen, which has a very low boiling point, can be harmful and even fatal if ingested.
