The letter condemned the suspension of a social media platform owned by Elon Musk as a dangerous escalation of global censorship of speech. The platform was shut down by a Brazilian Supreme Court judge for refusing to comply with government orders. The signatories included notable academics, journalists, and politicians from around the world, calling for the restoration of free speech rights in Brazil. The letter also urged the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to intervene against the violation of free speech. The initiative was coordinated by legal advocacy group ADF International.
