Duchess of Edinburgh experiences awkward handshake moment

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh visited Malta to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence from the UK. During their visit, they met with Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela and his wife, Lydia, and posed for photos together. However, an awkward moment was caught on video when the duchess appeared to miss the prime minister’s handshake attempt. Eventually, she acknowledged his gesture after Prince Edward alerted her. The couple also paid tribute to the bravery of the Maltese people during World War II by casting a wreath into Valletta harbor. They also visited Villa Guardamangia, where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip lived in the 1940s.
