Climate Central released a report showing that a quarter of the global population faced extreme heat due to climate change this summer. The use of fossil fuels and human activities are driving this trend, with 2 billion people exposed to health-threatening temperatures for over 30 days. 72 countries had their hottest summer since 1970, with 180 cities in the Northern Hemisphere experiencing extreme heatwaves. The report highlights the impact of climate change on temperatures globally and provides data on heat exposure. In India, the summer of 2024 was the second-hottest since 1970, with millions of people experiencing risky heat. Cities like Mumbai, Kanpur, and Delhi saw prolonged periods of dangerously high temperatures. The report emphasizes the urgent need to address carbon pollution and its impact on global health.
