Chinese hack of telecommunications companies under investigation, NSA chief says

The director of the NSA, Gen. Timothy Haugh, stated that a Chinese hack of three major telecommunications firms is under investigation, but it is too early to discuss specifics. The hack may have targeted systems used for court-approved eavesdropping by federal authorities, posing a serious security risk if successful. The NSA had previously issued a warning about Chinese cyber operators targeting major telecommunications companies. Haugh emphasized that China’s cyber operatives are actively trying to steal technology and compromise vital infrastructure. The FBI, White House, and Chinese Embassy did not comment on the matter.
