China-linked security breach targeted U.S. wiretap systems, WSJ reports



People in China are celebrating National Day, a holiday commemorating the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Meanwhile, in the U.S., it’s been reported that Chinese hackers breached U.S. broadband provider networks in an attack linked to the Chinese government. The hackers may have gained access to information about court-authorized wiretap requests. This raises concerns about potential disruptions to U.S. systems in the event of a conflict between the two countries. The FBI has not commented on the matter. China denies using hackers to access government information, but the cyber breach poses serious national security risks.
