Charges dismissed against deaf man with cerebral palsy who was tased and repeatedly punched by Phoenix police

All charges have been dropped against Tyron McAlpin, a deaf Black man with cerebral palsy, who was tasered and punched by Phoenix police officers during an arrest. The charges included aggravated assault and resisting arrest, but they were dismissed after a review of the case by Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. Body camera footage raised questions about the arrest, showing McAlpin being tasered and punched repeatedly despite being deaf and unable to comply with verbal commands. The incident occurred after a 911 call about a fight at a convenience store, where McAlpin was accused of theft. The Phoenix Police Department has faced criticism for its treatment of minority communities, as highlighted by a recent Justice Department investigation.
