Biden apologizes for forced Native American boarding school policy that caused abuse and deaths of children

President Joe Biden issued a formal apology for the United States policy that separated indigenous children from their families and sent them to boarding schools for forced assimilation. The apology came after an investigation by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, a Native American, revealed the trauma and deaths caused by the policy. Biden acknowledged the pain and abuse suffered by Native children in these institutions. Some members of the indigenous community expressed skepticism about the apology, emphasizing the need for meaningful actions and resources to address the ongoing impact of the boarding school policy. Despite some criticism, Biden’s apology was welcomed by many at the event in Phoenix.
