Astrosat, Nasa observatories find how black hole’s stellar debris disk bombards orbiting object – Times of India

India’s AstroSat and Nasa’s space observatories, along with other international telescopes, have observed a fascinating cosmic event involving a massive black hole and stellar wreckage. This discovery sheds light on previously mysterious phenomena known as tidal disruption events (TDEs) and quasi-periodic eruptions (QPEs). The black hole has torn apart one star and is now using the debris to interact with another celestial object, possibly a star or smaller black hole. This event, named “AT2019qiz”, was detected by various observatories, including AstroSat, providing valuable data to unravel this cosmic mystery. This breakthrough has enhanced our understanding of the origins of these regular eruptions in the universe.
