Archdiocese of L.A. reaches 0M child sex abuse settlement over hundreds of claims

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has reached a historic $880 million settlement over hundreds of child sex abuse claims. This settlement covers 1,354 claims filed under California Assembly Bill 218, which lifted the statute of limitations on past sexual abuse claims. The settlement reflects the harm done to vulnerable children and the decades of neglect by the Archdiocese. Archbishop José H. Gomez expressed his apologies for the incidents and hopes the settlement will provide healing for the survivors. The settlement will be funded by the Archdiocese’s administrative office, not by donations to parishes or schools.
