Varas: USMNT lacked right ‘mentality’ in historic loss to Canada

Interim coach Mikey Varas expressed disappointment in the US men’s national team’s lack of mentality in their 2-1 loss to Canada, their first defeat on U.S. soil in 67 years. Varas emphasized the players’ responsibility in bringing the right attitude to the game, noting that coaches can only do so much. The team’s recent poor performances, including a four-game losing streak if they fall to New Zealand, have raised concerns. Varas took some blame for the loss, admitting that introducing new tactical ideas may have contributed to the confusion on the field. Mauricio Pochettino is expected to become the new USMNT coach soon.
