New Zealand crush India to end 36-year wait

New Zealand secured their first test win in India since 1988 by chasing down a tricky target in hostile conditions to defeat the hosts by eight wickets in the first test. Despite dismissing India for their lowest home total of 46 and making 402 in reply, New Zealand bowled out India for 462 in the second innings to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Will Young and Rachin Ravindra remained composed to guide New Zealand to victory, with pace bowlers Matt Henry and Will O’Rourke playing a crucial role. Captain Tom Latham praised his team’s effort and resilience, highlighting the special feeling of achieving this historic win. India’s Rohit Sharma acknowledged the team’s batting struggles in the first innings but praised their fightback in the second. The series, part of the World Test Championship, will continue with matches in Pune and Mumbai. India will need to regroup to keep their home series victory streak alive.
