Nevada goes against players, says San Jose St. volleyball match on

The University of Nevada women’s volleyball team players released a statement saying they would forfeit their upcoming match against San Jose State, citing a demand for safety and fair competition. Other schools had previously forfeited matches against San Jose State without giving a reason. Nevada’s athletic department stated they couldn’t back out due to state equality laws and NCAA regulations, but players would not face disciplinary action for refusing to play. The players’ decision was made independently and did not represent the university’s position. Some Republican politicians supported the forfeits, citing a need for fairness in women’s sports. The cancellations could impact team qualification for the conference tournament.
