The NCAA has announced that they will stick with two regionals for the women’s basketball tournament through at least 2028, with Las Vegas and Philadelphia hosting the 2027 regionals and Portland, Oregon, and Washington hosting the 2028 Sweet 16. This format was switched to in 2023 and has been successful in showcasing the growth of the Division I women’s basketball championship. The men’s NCAA tournament will also feature regional hosts in various cities over the next two years, with a total of 25 cities in 18 states hosting games. This decision aims to build further momentum for women’s basketball and ensure successful events in cities with a proven track record of hosting such tournaments.
