Former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke has been appointed as the coach of Trinidad and Tobago, with the goal of leading his home islands back to the World Cup. Yorke previously captained the Soca Warriors at the 2006 World Cup, the only time they have qualified for the tournament. Trinidadian soccer federation president Kieron Edwards praised Yorke’s experience and leadership, stating that he is the perfect person to inspire both the players and the nation. Yorke will be leading the team in their World Cup qualifying campaign, with their next match against Saint Kitts and Nevis. If successful, Trinidad & Tobago could secure a spot in the next stage of qualifying. Yorke’s coaching experience includes a successful stint in Australia with Macarthur FC, where he won the national cup title in 2022.
