The Big 12’s potential addition of UConn as a member has been put on hold, according to commissioner Brett Yormark. Discussions between conference colleagues and UConn leadership have been paused in order to focus on other priorities in college athletics. Last month, UConn officials met with Big 12 athletic directors to discuss joining the league in football by 2031. However, talks stalled due to timing issues and the current focus on other pressing matters within the conference. While UConn’s basketball program is highly valued, the decision to table the talks was not unexpected. Discussions with other potential members, such as Gonzaga, also did not come to fruition.
