Former Kentucky men’s basketball coach John Calipari has expressed support for his replacement, Mark Pope, ahead of the upcoming season. Calipari believes Pope, who played for Kentucky and won a national title with the team in 1996, is the perfect fit for the job due to his connection and understanding of the program. Despite leaving Kentucky for Arkansas, Calipari remains supportive of Pope and looks forward to their lone meeting on Feb. 1. Pope, in return, has praised Calipari as a Hall of Fame coach and mentor. Calipari is now focused on building his new team at Arkansas and wishes Pope success in his new role at Kentucky.
