The recent oath-taking ceremony of MLAs in Jammu and Kashmir marks the end of a six-year period without an Assembly. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced he is vacating the Budgam seat and retaining the Ganderbal constituency. He won in both places in the recent elections. The oath-taking ceremony included newly-elected MLAs, with Omar Abdullah taking his oath in Kashmiri. The National Conference, supported by other parties, now has a total of 56 MLAs in the Assembly. The ceremony signifies a new chapter in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
