‘Secularism Is A European Concept, No Need In India’: Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi Sparks Row



Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi sparked controversy by stating that secularism is a European concept and not needed in India during a public event in Kanyakumari. Opposition leaders strongly condemned his remarks, with Congress MP Manickam Tagore calling it unacceptable and against the Constitution. NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto emphasized that as a Governor, Ravi should uphold the Constitution. DMK leader TKS Elangovan disagreed, stating that secularism is essential in India due to its diverse religions. CPI (M) Polit Bureau Member Brinda Karat criticized Ravi for not understanding the Constitution, noting that secularism is a fundamental part of it.
