After nearly five years under central authority, Jammu and Kashmir is set to have an active Legislative Assembly again, with Omar Abdullah likely to lead the newly elected government. President Droupadi Murmu revoked President’s rule in the region, allowing the government formation after recent assembly elections. The NC-Congress alliance has claimed to form the government with support from other parties and independents. Central rule was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 after the division into two union territories. The revocation of President’s Rule was approved by the Union Cabinet, formally ending central administration in the region.
