J&K NC’s Farooq Abdullah’s ‘Terrorists Shouldn’t Be Killed’ Remark Sparks Row

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has called for an independent investigation into recent terror activities in the region to determine if there is a conspiracy to destabilize the newly-elected government. He suggested capturing terrorists alive for interrogation instead of killing them. Sharad Pawar defended Abdullah’s statement, while the BJP criticized him for blaming the Indian Army and agencies. Abdullah’s comments come after a surge in terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir following the election of the Omar Abdullah-led government. Security forces have been engaged in encounters with terrorists in various parts of the region, leading to casualties on both sides. Intelligence agencies believe that terrorists are being instructed to carry out attacks in response to the successful elections.
