The distribution of worm-infested food kits to landslide-affected families in Meppadi panchayat caused protests by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) members and affected families. They accused the panchayat of negligence for providing inedible rice and other provisions, as well as old and worn clothing. The panchayat president defended their actions, stating that they had been distributing food items without complaints for the last three months. He mentioned that the provisions were supplied by the revenue department and that local representatives were restricted from inspecting food quality due to election protocols.
