Work on brushwood check dam to boost farming efforts to begin in Kalamassery

Planners in Kalamassery and neighbouring areas are introducing a brushwood check dam at Kulakkarathod in Kunnukara panchayat to enhance farming activities. The dam will aid in watershed management, water retention for irrigation, and boosting groundwater levels. Despite being simple structures, brushwood check dams have been less common in recent times. The decision to build this dam came after a thorough water survey in the area. The dam will be constructed using natural materials and will blend into the landscape while effectively managing water flow. These dams are crucial for controlling erosion, enhancing water retention, and supporting biodiversity. This initiative is part of a larger water improvement program in Kalamassery, aiming to enhance water availability for farming activities using indigenous methods.
