A few members of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) met with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to discuss women’s rights and equality in the Malayalam entertainment industry. The meeting came after the Kerala High Court criticized the government for not acting on the Hema Committee report. The WCC members may have discussed the government’s proposed cinema conclave in 2025 and sought help to improve workplace conditions and create a more democratic industry. The High Court’s observations raised concerns about women’s safety, pay gaps, and poor working conditions in the film industry. The government has formed a special investigation team to look into allegations of sexual exploitation and harassment.
