A 61-year-old woman named Shanthamma suffered paralysis after receiving a rabies vaccine at Government Medical College Hospital in Alappuzha. She had received the vaccine after a rabbit bite on October 21. Her family filed a complaint alleging medical negligence, stating that she had an allergic reaction to a test dose of the vaccine, but was still given the full dose. The hospital authorities denied the allegations, stating that they had informed the patient and her husband of potential side effects and obtained consent before administering the vaccine. While the patient is in stable condition, there has been no significant improvement in her brain function.
