Woman paralysed after rabies vaccine at Alappuzha Medical College, family files plaint | Onmanorama News



A 61-year-old woman named Shanthamma suffered paralysis after receiving a rabies vaccine at a hospital in Alappuzha. Her family filed a complaint alleging medical negligence. Shanthamma had scratches from a rabbit and developed allergic reactions after the vaccine, but hospital staff continued with the vaccination series. She lost consciousness but is now receiving treatment and showing improvement. The hospital stated that they informed the patient and her husband of potential side effects and provided immediate treatment for anaphylactic symptoms. Specialists from Cardiology and Neurology are also involved in her care.
