Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary’s vulture survey records 80 birds

During a two-day vulture survey in the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, 80 vultures were spotted across nine locations, including White-rumped and Red-headed vultures. The survey was a joint effort by the Forest and Wildlife department and the Hume Centre for Ecology and Wildlife Biology to assess the status and distribution of vulture species in the sanctuary. The participants, including members of various organizations, highlighted the importance of conservation efforts to protect these avian scavengers. Concerns were raised about invasive plant species disrupting the natural ecosystem and impacting vulture populations. The survey emphasized the need for effective vegetation management and conservation of large carnivores to ensure the survival of vultures in the sanctuary.
