Wayanad rehabilitation: Kerala govt. agrees to Opposition’s demand for an adjournment debate in Assembly

The Kerala government has agreed to hold a debate on securing central aid for the rehabilitation of families displaced by the Wayanad landslides. The State Cabinet has intervened to petition the Union Government for aid and has identified safe ground to build a model township. The landslides on July 30 wiped out three villages, resulting in a confirmed death toll of 231. The government estimates the total loss to be over ₹1,200 crores. Despite protests over delays in aid distribution, the government states that the relief aid received so far is routine and not the special assistance requested for Wayanad. The debate in the House will allow for suggestions and creative approaches to address the rehabilitation efforts.
