Chithrapuzha, a river in Kochi, is highly polluted due to sewage discharge and its proximity to a waste dumping yard. The Integrated Urban Regeneration and Water Transport System (IURWTS) in Greater Kochi got approval for a sewerage project at Elamkulam. The project aims to rejuvenate canals and set up sewerage treatment plants in the area. The State and Centre will share project costs, and it should be completed in three years. The project will help prevent pollution and improve water quality in the region by discouraging dumping of untreated sewage. The Corporation will also take action against those polluting waterbodies.
