SHRC orders removal of illegal billboards

The State Human Rights Commission has ordered local self-government bodies in Kannur district to remove illegal billboards placed along roads, dividers, and buildings. This action was taken in response to a complaint stating that court orders against such billboards were being violated. The district police chief reported on the situation, prompting panchayat and municipal authorities to immediately remove the illegal signage. Station House Officers have been instructed to take legal action on complaints, and sub-divisional officers are responsible for ensuring compliance with court orders. This directive follows a complaint by human rights activist V. Devdas, urging action against the proliferation of illegal billboards in the district.
