SCTIMST: SCTIMST Launches Cutting-Edge Centre for Minimally Invasive Cardiovascular Devices | Thiruvananthapuram News

The Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) has opened a centre of excellence (CoE) focused on developing minimally invasive cardiovascular devices. These devices, such as transcatheter aortic valves and clot retrievers for stroke treatment, offer patients with high surgical risk a new lease on life with fewer complications and quicker recovery times. The CoE aims to make these advanced devices more accessible through early technology transfer. While cost remains a challenge, ongoing research is improving device durability and outcomes, making them comparable or even superior to traditional open-heart surgery. The CoE, funded by the Union department of biotechnology, is a part of SCTIMST’s efforts to boost India’s medical technology sector and support initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
