Residents stage protest demanding construction of bridge

Residents of Kothad island are frustrated with the government’s delay in constructing the Chennur-Kothad bridge, which was first proposed 40 years ago. They held a protest at Ferry Junction, with residents and traders participating by staying away from work and closing shops. The protesters feel that despite a decision being made in 2006, the bridge has not been built. Children even joined the protest by lighting torches. The bridge action council has stated that the agitation will continue until construction begins, as most of the land needed is available. The residents are determined to see progress on this long-awaited project.
