Relocation of settler farmers in Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in limbo

The Forest and Revenue departments are being criticized for not completing a voluntary relocation project for settler farmers and tribal families in the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. A survey conducted 16 years ago identified the need to relocate over 10,000 people from 111 settlements. The project, which started in 2011, has faced challenges and is yet to be completed in four hamlets. Farmers in the Chettyalathur hamlet have faced obstacles from Revenue officials, causing delays in resettlement. Many families are still waiting for the project to be completed, with some even threatening to resume protests if action is not taken soon.
