A Doppler Weather Radar will be installed in Wayanad, North Kerala, following catastrophic landslides to enhance the weather observational network in the state. The radar will have an observation range of 100 km and will help in forecasting and real-time monitoring of the weather. While radar can’t predict extreme weather events like floods in advance, it can provide valuable data for numerical weather prediction models. This radar will strengthen the overall weather observational network in the region and improve forecasting capabilities. The selection of Wayanad as the location was based on factors like beam blockage and optimal positioning.
